The Limiting Characteristics of Power Resonances in Ring Gas Lasers

Abstract

The ultimately attainable widths and contrasts of power resonances in ring gas lasers are considered. It is shown that the width of the resonances depends on both the concentration of the absorbing gaseous medium and on the macroscopic system parameters, such as the coupling of the traveling waves through back reflection, the laser intensity, and the cavity Q. The resonance width is found to have a nonlinear dependence on the gas density in the absorbing cell.
