Abstract

Centrifugal pumps should almost never be started until they are fully primed, that is, until they have been filled with the liquid pumped and all the air has escaped. The exceptions involve self-priming pumps and some special large-capacity, low-head, and low-speed installations where pump priming before starting is not practical and the priming is almost simultaneous with the starting. Priming of centrifugal pumps is described in Chapter 25.
