Abstract

It seems little known that the first mention of canal construction was by Celsus (A.D. 30), who drilled a hole in the atretic bone, filled it with a wooden peg, and waited for second intention healing (Lernoud, 1958). Paul of Aeginata (Paulus Aeginata, 1844) classified auricular atresia as congenital or traumatic in the ninth century.
