Satyr Ear

  • Jack Davis

Satyr ear has been referred to as pixie, goblin, elfin, or gnome ear, depending on how much you like the little people. I do, but I prefer to use the Greek Mythology comparison because it is better internationally understood. Embryologically, this deformity is due to a defect of hillock 4. The ear dome shape is triangular because the posterior dome has collapsed. The whole upper auricular third is narrow, and the angulation of the dome can progress to a kink and is somewhat similar to the shape found in the primitive ear. The first set of photographs shows the range from a very mild case through to full-blown satyr ear.
