To this point, in studying entropy behavior it has been assumed that the dynamical variables are known with infinite precision. As a consequence, the density f corresponding to a given thermodynamic state would also be precisely known. While this is the situation when an analytic form for the density is available, in the world of experiment the reality is that the density f (or, more usually, some functional of f) is either measured or estimated with some associated error.
