Nucleolar Organiser Regions
Nucleolar organiser regions (NORs) are the genomic DNA segments encoding for ribosomal RNA. They can be visualised in chromosome preparations and in interphase nuclei because each NOR is associated with argyrophilic protein; the silver-stained structures thus demonstrated are called AgNORs.
