Abstract

Absolute or relative poverty is a constraint on entitlements and thus on personal behaviour. But in most cases, people react by using their social environment: community, family, neighbourhood, kinship groups, informal markets, or any other possible social network. These networks are roughly based on altruistic interactions that are, in this chapter, materialized in informal transfers or pluri-activity.
