Abstract

Ricky Weiser… altered [the Folio text of King John] less than I have ever seen a text altered. The result was a clear and open reading (along with a stunning production)… The actors spoke the text and managed a good deal of their stage business with an obvious knowledge of Richard Flatter’s invaluable Shakespeare’s Producing Hand. The resulting pattern of speaking and moving, although the cast was not an especially superior one overall, asserted the verse with ease and strength. (J. H. Crouch, Shakespeare Quarterly 28 [1977]: 228)
