Ensuring information quality in a very large Web-based Information Network
A Web-based Information Network is expected to manage a very large amount of information, therefore it raises two fundamental problems: (i) the relevance of the information that will be provided to the users and, (ii) the quality of information actually delivered.
The above issues are particularly critical for complex organisations, working in complex domains (i.e., composed of a great number of different application domains), with a large number of users involved.
Relevance of the information implies the identification of the 蘿ight” information to be provided, while the second issue, i.e. information quality, requires a method that guarantee that referenced information actually exists, is reliable and up-to-date. The existence of information is an important issue in Web-based Information Networks, where there is the risk of keeping dangling references to sites or pages that may exist for a limited time.
In our paper we illustrate a method for the design of Web-based Information Network that address the above issues.
The method has been applied in the preliminary analysis of the Information Network under development for the Jubilee 2000, that will take place in Rome during the next Holy Year.
