Abstract
Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) are one of the important entities for implementing smart city projects. Traffic monitoring and controlling of the city during the emergency conditions such as vehicular congestion due to accident and vehicle failure are the important challenges of advance intelligent transport system (ITS). The performance of ITS in smart cities is based on the QoS of VANET, where mobility and dynamic changing topology degrade the performance. VANET primarily depends on the type of underlying routing protocol such as proactive (DSDV), reactive (AODV) and clustering-based routing protocols (CAODV). Network failure conditions in VANET caused by either node or RSU failure due to natural disasters, electrical faults or accidents, etc., degrade the overall QoS in VANET. This paper carries out the deep analysis of the effect of such failure by simulating failure condition against the normal VANET using all the above routing protocols.
