Abstract

To conclude upon qualitative research findings taken from local farms, in relation to macro-scale ideologies, discourses and general theories, this chapter discusses some of the complexities surrounding over-simplified farming visions or general theories of revolutions and economic drivers. From the complicate circumstances, it draws upon general trends and what could be considered the causes of the farming revolution. It then discusses alterative avenues of current and future farming, often overshadowed by dominant ideas about industrial progress. It discusses the ways in which hegemonic ideologies of powerful firms and organisations are disseminated through media channels and consumed by local farmers. The chapter then goes on to discuss the future of farming in relation to cultural trends of immaterialisation and disembodiment/embodiment. The chapter then concludes the book by offering an appeal for broader considerations of farming revolutions rather than one, single revolution and farming futures rather than one narrative of The Future of Farming.
