Abstract

It is shown that the effect of charge-transfer inefficiency on the frequency response of CCD transversal filters is a sensitive function of the actual zero locations and in contrast to the observation made in the paper by Foxall et al. (1977), the minimum phase design is not always less sensitive than its linear-phase prototype.

Notes

  1. 1.

    For a given r (≠1) and θ (≠0 or π), the linear-phase case has zeros at \( re^{{ \pm {\text{j}}\theta }} \) and \( \frac{1}{r}e^{ \pm j\theta } \), while the minimum-phase design has double zeros at each of the two positions \( \frac{1}{r}e^{ \pm j\theta } \). For r = 1 and \( \theta \ne 0 \) or π, each design has two zeros at \( e^{{ \pm {\text{j}}\theta }} \). For r = 1 and \( \theta = 0 \) (or π) each design has only one zero at +1 (–1). For r ≠ 1 and \( \theta = 0 \) the linear-phase design has two zeros at r and 1/r, while the minimum-phase design has double zeros at 1/r.
