Abstract
In this chapter we introduce the main concepts of kinematics of continua. These concepts are universal and they do not depend on the choice of specific materials.

We capitalize the first character in differential operators: “\(\mathrm {Grad}\)”, “\(\mathrm {Div}\)”, “\(\mathrm {Curl}\)”, when differentiation is with respect to \(\mathbf {x}\). The operators are written as usual: “\(\mathrm {grad}\)”, “\(\mathrm {div}\)”, “\(\mathrm {curl}\)”, when differentiation is with respect to \(\mathbf {y}\).
