Vocational Education and Training in ASEAN Member States

Abstract

Nationally, TVET in Indonesia has developed along with the needs of skilled workers in the workplace. The influence of geographical, cultural, social life, as well as local wisdom becomes the particular characteristic of the development and needs of vocational human resources in various fields of international, national, or even at SME scales. To meet the needs of today's skilled workforce and to meet the labor needs of 2030 as demographics bonus—that is 70% of the population is at labor force age—Indonesia is implementing a revitalization program for vocational education implemented both in secondary (Vocational High School) and high education (Vocational Polytechnic and Higher Education), as well as in various Employment Training Center Institutions. Standardization of TVET Education and various legal aspects have become guidelines for measurable and sustainable TVET Education. In addition, the involvement of the nine ministries and the National Professional Certification Agency showed the Indonesian government’s sincerity toward the development of TVET Education which includes the development of infrastructure facilities and also TVET Teacher as an important part of TVET Personal.
