Abstract

This chapter commences with a global overview of HIV/AIDS, and then shows the impact of this pandemic on each country—Fiji, Guyana, Vanuatu, and Antigua and Barbuda—in this multi-country study. The chapter then presents the significance, purpose, and research questions of this research. The evidence is clear that significant advances continue to penetrate almost every dimension of the fight against HIV and AIDS. But advancements for adolescents are still way behind. In this study, the high school students were adolescents, who constituted on average about 20% or one-fifth of the total population in each of the four countries. And given the epidemiological HIV profiles in Guyana, Vanuatu, Fiji, and Antigua and Barbuda, there is, indeed, justification for this multi-country study on HIV and AIDS knowledge and HIV and AIDS-related stigma among young people in secondary schools.
