Abstract

This chapter summarizes the findings on population and development nexus in districts of India. We describe the population trends, age distribution, pattern of sex ratio, estimated singulate mean age at marriage that depict demographic divide in districts of India. These demographic divide are associated with educational, heath and economic inequality among districts of India. The demographic and development divide are equally high within and among the states of India. The pattern of development is highly clustered. The development divide led to inter-state migration of varying pattern. We conclude that demographic and development divide are large and inter-wined.
