Abstract
Rapid industrialization and economic growth has contributed to the problem of waste management. With the rapid development, the world has witnessed massive growth in commercial and domestic cooling systems. The conventional solutions for refrigeration and air conditioning demand high amount of electricity; in view of balancing the energy needs, there is a case in point for the development of a sustainable system, utilizing alternative energy sources. Energy recovery from the urban biomass waste and solar energy for utilization in the cooling system is proposed. The model incorporates three subsystems: vapor absorption refrigeration system (VARS), solar energy extraction system (SEES) and biogas generation system (BGS). The system uses the concept of decentralized waste management, as household organic waste acts as the feed for the BGS. The generated biogas acts as an energy source during the night, and on cloudy days, for the VARS system, while SEES acts as the driving source during sunny days. Accordingly, if the proposed model system is successfully developed, it can make the cooling system sustainable. Literature with respect to the combined system is scarce.
