Abstract

Situated on the eastern Asian continent and west coast of the Pacific Ocean, China has a land area of about 9.6 million square kilometers, land border of 22,800 km, a sea area of 4.73 million square kilometers, and a coastline of about 18,000 km. At the end of 2014, China had a total population of 1.367 billion and a GDP of RMB 63.6 trillion, up 7.3% year-on-year. According to Global Competitiveness Report 20152016 published by the World Economic Forum (WEF), China ranks 28th in terms of global competitiveness, a top ranking among the BRICS countries that secures its status as the most competitive emerging market. Province is the largest administrative division in China. Provincial economy is an integral part of the Chinese economy. To some extent, provincial economic competitiveness determines the development level of the Chinese economy and its international competitiveness.
