Abstract
With the advancements in technology the requirement of security systems to protect data are becoming crucial. The shift from high end devices such as desktop computers, servers and laptops to small constrained devices such as RFID tags, smart cards, wireless sensor nodes and all those devices related to Internet of Things (IOT) brings a wide range of new security challenges. The major concern of such devices is the storage, access and transmission of critical data. Lightweight cryptography mainly aims for the security of such resource constrained devices. The existing conventional cryptographic algorithms cannot be applied to these resource constrained devices and hence the need for new lightweight cryptographic algorithms. A comparative analysis of the various symmetric lightweight block ciphers applicable to such devices is provided in this paper.
