Abstract

In Buddhist education, Buddha eight-phase story is one of the basic topics of Buddhist believers who should be aware of the practice. In the classical books and stories, the Buddha’s life can be sorted into eight stages, known as the eight-phases of Buddha life and which is also an indispensable cultural material for Buddhism. Based on early research the third-phase story “Born” was chosen, with the extension of role elements and evaluate the development of roles, to start up the role of Buddhist culture and creative doll design selection. The purpose of this study is to explore the selection of the suitable characters for the design of derivative works of Buddhism in the eight-phases and to carry out the planning and design of Buddhist culture and creative arts. First of all, through the Modified Delphi Method summed up the evaluation of the role of the Buddhist elements and evaluation factor, developed a questionnaire on the evaluation of the role of Buddhism. Following that, the grey relational analysis (GRA) was used to select the most derivative design of the story role. The results of the study suggest 15 evaluation factors. This study can be used as a creative design of Buddhist cultural and creative paper doll design planning and its design research and development system as a certain value and contribution in the promotion of Buddhism.
