Abstract
A carbon tax is a policy instrument that can be applied to help constrain greenhouse gas emissions. Indonesia’s policy goals in this respect were articulated in the Ministry of Finance Indonesia’s Green Paper on Climate Change Commitment of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, presented at a G-20 conference (2010). The country’s target is to reduce CO2 emissions in 2020 to the equivalent of 6% to 24% below 2005 levels. The tax will be introduced at a rate that is calculated to reduce emissions to meet long-term goals.
