Summary

The inheritance of serum transferrins in plaice was investigated by means of breeding experiments. Using starch gel electrophoresis, unexpected types were found in the offspring during the first year of life. Changes into expected patterns were observed in some of the animals sampled again at a later stage. An explanation, involving developmental changes in the structure of the transferrin molecules, superimposed on their inherited characteristics, is suggested.
