Summary
Transferrin was investigated in 456 Lipizzaner horses from Austria, Hungary and Czechoslovakia. The three populations have been separate for about 30 years. Considerable difference with regard to transferrin distribution was found in the three populations, and the causes thereof were discussed.
Haemoglobin determinations on 293 Austrian and Czechoslovakian Lipizzaner horses failed to show differences between the populations. The mode of inheritance was revealed by examination of 161 direct pedigrees.
The probability of exclusion of wrong pedigree by use of the Tf system = Austria 32.68%, Hungary 31.51% and Czechoslovakia 25.65%. The combined probability both for transferrin and haemoglobin amounts to about 40%.
