Summary

Using Chromium-51 labelling techniques the apparent half-life time of autologous bovine erythrocytes was determined in 50 Afrikaner cows possessing all possible haemoglobin and transferrin types.

The results obtained indicate that no association exists between the haemoglobin genotype and the erythrocyte survival time. However, a definite relationship between the transferrin genotypes and the red cell survival time could be established.
