Abstract
This is the “nuts and bolts” chapter where we set out brief descriptions of the experimental devices used in a wide range of situations. We have covered most of the commonly used types and some interesting ones seldom used. The descriptions are not meant to be exhaustive; references are given for more detailed information. The Appendix contains elaborations of some of the points mentioned in this chapter. Each description follows a common format for easy comparison.
