Abstract
Y-TZP (yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia) matrix composites reinforced by SiC particles(p) were fabricated by hot-pressing. The mechanical properties, microstructure and phase composition of the composites were investigated. High temperature strength of the composites was significantly improved, and was dominated by strengthening effect produced by SiC particles. The SiC(p)/Y-TZP composites were used for manufacturing ceramic valve seats in Diesel engine, and a good test result was achieved.
