Abstract
A simple model (CM1) for the macroscopic behaviour of brittle materials, suitable for simulation of rapid and intense loading has been developed, based on the concept of a damage function increasing with increasing inelastic deformation and reducing the strength of the material. The model has been implemented in the AUTODYN-2D code and tested in a couple of applications with encouraging results which demonstrate the potential of the model to be used for further studies.
