Abstract

The immunologic approach to the treatment of malignant diseases has been discussed in medical literature and developed on the experimental level for more than a century. During the past decade a variety of immunologic modalities have been used in studies in human cancer patients to control the disease Immunotherapy is conceived of as a possible coequal or adjunct to chemotherapy and radiotherapy in the treatment of certain malignancies. Although the role of immunotherapy has not yet been clearly delineated, studies in animals and patients serve as a foundation on which to build future treatment programs.
