Psychotropic pills or psychotherapy?

  • Chapter
Common Dilemmas in Family Medicine

Abstract

‘Psychiatric problems’ in family practice are largely ‘symptom diagnoses’ with descriptive features and few positive signs. Many factors enter into possible causes and management — patient, family and environment; the physician; the disorder; and possible therapies. There are many uncertainties on the natural histories of the varied syndromes.
