Abstract
The velocity structure in the narrow line region of the Seyfert galaxy NGC 4151 is studied by means of various long-slit coudé spectra. Spectral line profiles in the NE and SW quadrants display a 2-component structure while those in the NW and SE are narrower and smoother. One component fits to the general rotation pattern of the disk of NGC 4151. The other component may refer to a bipolar radial flow or to gas spiraling inwards within a plane which is perpendicular to the main galactic disk. It is suggested that merging gaseous disks are a common feature of narrow line regions in Seyferts.
