Abstract
We are compiling a large catalogue of QSOs with complete spectroscopic identification. Candidate QSOs are selected from COSMOS machine measurements of UK Schmidt photographic plates using the ultra-violet excess (UVX) technique. These candidates are subsequently observed spectroscopically using the new 40 arc minute fibre optic coupler at the Anglo Australian Telescope (AAT) which allows a maximum of 50 objects to be observed simultaneously. To date we have obtained spectra for 400 (B<21) UVX objects of which approximately 170 are emission line objects. This represents a surface density of UVX QSOs at B<21 of 50 sq. deg-1. This catalogue, which is free from selection effects up to a redshift of 2.2, will be used to study the QSO luminosity function, its evolution with redshift and the clustering of QSOs in the early Universe.
