Samenvatting
Bewegen is gezond. Echter, patiënten met chronische pijn ervaren vaak problemen met het uitvoeren van vrijetijdsactiviteiten waaronder sport en bewegen. Mensen vinden vrije tijd belangrijk; het draagt bij aan geluk, helpt stress te verminderen en het vermindert de negatieve beleving van pijn. Bij gezonde personen en bij bepaalde patiënten met chronische pijn heeft bewegen een pijndempend effect, wat wordt verklaard door activatie van het endogene pijndempende systeem. Echter, bij andere patiënten met chronische pijn blijkt dat bewegen juist eerder en meer pijn genereert. Stimuleer mensen met chronische pijn tot een actieve leefstijl met voldoende herstelmomenten. Stem de vorm en de inhoud van deze actieve leefstijl af op de wensen en behoeftes van de patiënt en vermijd verboden ten aanzien van bewegen. Een behandeling op maat is onontbeerlijk, waarbij de nadruk ligt op het (weer) vinden en uitvoeren van de voor de patiënt belangrijke vrijetijdsactiviteiten en het stimuleren van een duurzame actieve levensstijl.
