Zusammenfassung
Untersuchungen über Wanderung und Austausch von radioaktiven Indikatoren am lebenden Versuchstier bergen die Gefahr biologischer Wirkungen der ausgesendeten ionisierenden Strahlen auf Zellen oder Grenzmembranen. Bei Vorhandensein derartiger Wirkungen würden nicht physiologische Geschehnisse in einem normalen Organismus aufgezeigt werden, sondern Vorgänge in einem von der Strahlung beeinflußten biologischen System. In hierhergehörigen Versuchen am Auge1 wurde dieser Möglichkeit nicht Rechnung getragen, weil bei Einbringung geringer Mengen des radioaktiven Materials in die Blutbahn oder Bauchhöhle der am Auge wirksame Teil der Strahlung kleinste Mengen nicht überschritt. Bei örtlicher Verwendung radioaktiver Isotopen am Auge müßten dagegen Strahleneffekte berücksichtigt werden, besonders wenn leicht wasserlösliche, im extrazellulären Raum verbleibende Isotope von kurzer Halbwertzeit zum Gebrauch kommen und deren Verteilung in Flüssigkeiten und Geweben mit einer autoradiographischen Methode untersucht wird. So war in einer früheren Arbeit1e\ über die Verteilung von Radionatrium (Na24) am Auge gezeigt worden, daß verhältnismäßig hohe Konzentrationen der Substanz im Glaskörper nötig sind, um ihr Eindringen in die Ziliarfortsätze im histologischen Schnitt photographisch zur Ansicht zu bringen.
