Abstract

The bee-keeper places at the disposal of each of his colonies a wooden box called the beehive, the front of which is provided with a slit. This is the entrance through which the bees go in and out. Formerly, bee-keepers had beehives made of straw, and there are districts where these straw “skeps” have remained in use to the present day (pl. 11a).
