Ott 2016). Die Autorin leitet die in diesem Buch beschriebenen Übungen der Achtsamkeit und Selbsthypnose seit 2002 im Rahmen ihrer Tätigkeit als niedergelassene Psychiaterin, Psychotherapeutin und Palliativärztin an. Während dieser Zeit konnte sie keine der genannten negativen Wirkungen bei den nach diesen Anleitungen Übenden feststellen. Stattdessen traten, wie den Ergebnissen der wissenschaftlichen Studie zu entnehmen ist, die sie in Zusammenarbeit mit der Abteilung für Medizinische Psychologie der Uniklinik Köln von 2010 bis 2013 zur Wirksamkeit von Achtsamkeitstraining und Selbsthypnose in der Behandlung von Patienten mit einer Krebsdiagnose durchführte, bei den Probanden signifikante Verbesserungen ihrer Befindlichkeit auf: Symptome der Angst und Depression hatten sich deutlich reduziert und die Lebensqualität war angestiegen. Entsprechende Veränderungen konnten noch 1 Jahr nach der Intervention festgestellt werden. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt berichteten 81,82 % der Probanden, die Übungen noch regelmäßig durchzuführen (vgl. Metten 2014).
