Zusammenfassung
Die Teilnahme deutscher Mathematiker an dem Internationalen Mathematikerkongress in Bologna blieb bis zur Eröffnung eine heiß umstrittene Frage. Eine offizielle Einladung an die Deutsche Mathematiker-Vereinigung (DMV) führte zu einer Debatte innerhalb des Ausschusses, an der Otto Blumenthal direkt beteiligt war. Viele deutsche Mathematiker wollten sich voll und ganz von der Union Mathématique Internationale (UMI) distanzieren, weil sie nach wie vor die seit 1919 bestehende Boykottpolitik vertrat.
