Zusammenfassung

Viren haben keinen eigenen Stoffwechsel. Sie müssen in Wirtszellen eindringen und die zelluläre Maschinerie für die Replikation der eigenen genetischen Information (virale DNA oder RNA), die Synthese der viralen Proteine sowie die Assemblierung und den Export des infektiösen Viruspartikels nutzen. Die selektive pharmakologische Hemmung der viralen Vermehrung ist daher ein Problem. Dennoch sind mittlerweile einige Angriffspunkte erkannt worden, die bei einzelnen Viren eine spezifische Intervention erlauben.
