Zusammenfassung
Thyroxin (T4) und Trijodthyronin (T3) sind Hormone, die von den Follikelepithelzellen der Schilddrüse gebildet und in Follikeln gespeichert werden. Sie sind für die normale Entwicklung im Kleinkindalter (Körperwachstum, Reifung des Gehirns) essenziell und werden auch für die Regulation aller Organfunktionen im Erwachsenenalter gebraucht, weil ohne sie andere Hormone nicht wirken („permissive Wirkung“). Die C-Zellen der Schilddrüse produzieren Calcitonin, das an der Regulation des Calciumspiegels beteiligt ist (Kap. 55). Über- und Unterfunktionen der Schilddrüse sind häufige Erkrankungen. Von medizinischem Interesse sind daher sowohl die Substitution von Schilddrüsenhormonen als auch die pharmakologische Hemmung deren Synthese durch Thyreostatika. Daneben gibt es noch einige Pharmaka, die mit der Schilddrüsenfunktion oder der Bindung von Schilddrüsenhormonen an deren nukleäre Rezeptoren interferieren können.
