Zusammenfassung
Die moderne Transplantationsmedizin wäre ohne den Einsatz von Immunsuppressiva nicht möglich. Auch die Behandlung von Autoimmunerkrankungen sowie einiger chronisch-entzündlicher Erkrankungen beruht ganz wesentlich auf dem Einsatz von Immunsuppressiva. Bei letzteren Erkrankungen kommen auch Pharmaka zum Einsatz, die nicht primär immunsuppressiv wirken, sondern modulierend auf Immunfunktionen einwirken, wie z. B. Interferon-β. Dabei ist die Abgrenzung nicht immer eindeutig.
