Die Ökologie behandelt die Wechselwirkungen zwischen Organismen und ihrer Umwelt, die Anpassungen der Organismen (morphologisch-anatomisch = Autökologie) als auch ihre Einnischung (Lebensformen, Lebensstrategien, Vergesellschaftung = Synökologie) sowie ihre Reaktion auf Standortfaktoren (Ökophysiologie, hier in Kap. 6 behandelt).
