Zusammenfassung

Die Hochzeit stellt kulturübergreifend ein bedeutsames Übergangsritual dar. Dabei hat sie in manchen Ländern eine besonders starke soziale Symbolfunktion. Ihre Rituale ebnen den Übergang zwischen zwei Lebensabschnitten und geben Halt in einer Zeit, die von Ungewissheit geprägt ist. Außerdem tragen sie zur Vermittlung sozialer Werte und zur Festigung der Bindung des Brautpaares bei.
