Zusammenfassung
Die Vorfahren der höheren Pflanzen lebten im Wasser. Dadurch konnten die Organe nicht oder nur wenig differenziert sein, und sie benötigten keine komplexen Leitgefäßstrukturen (Abschn. 3.1). Deshalb bezeichnet man die basalen Gruppen der Plantae auch als Thalluspflanzen, die aufgrund ihres hohen Alters zum Teil sehr vielfältig und vielgestaltig sind.
