Zusammenfassung
Voraussetzung zur Vermeidung postoperativer Wundinfektionen ist eine optimale präoperative Vorbereitung des Patienten, eine schonende Operationstechnik und das Aufrechterhalten der intraoperativen Homöostase sowie eine sachgerechte Wundversorgung in der postoperativen Phase. Etwas provokativ und selbstkritisch formulierte schon der berühmte Chirurg August Bier (1861–1949): „Der größte Feind der Wunde ist die Hand des Arztes“. Die Präventionsstrategien und Maßnahmen leiten sich von der Risikoanalyse, der Beeinflussbarkeit und dem Risiko- bzw. Kosten-Nutzen-Verhältnis der Intervention ab.
