FormalPara BeschreibungDas Kx-Protein ist als Multi-pass-Membranprotein mit 444 Aminosäuren kovalent an das Kell-Protein gebunden (Kell-Blutgruppensystem). Das Fehlen des Kx-Proteins ist assoziiert mit dem McLeod-Syndrom (Null-Phänotyp im Blutgruppensystem), das sich in choreatiformer Bewegungsstörung, selten Dystonien und zerebralen Anfällen, axonale Polyneuropathie, Myopathie, Kardiomyopathie, Hämolyse und Akanthozytose darstellt. Das Kx-Gen ist auf dem X-Chromosom lokalisiert (Xp21.1) und besteht aus 3 Exons. Das Kx-Protein, auch XK-Protein genannt, ist ein Membrantransportprotein unbekannter Funktion.
