Abstract

The phenomenon of “structural” superplasticity wherein metallic materials exhibit ductility far in excess of conventional behaviour, when subjected to small forces in tension, compression or torsion, has been a subject of serious study only in recent years. A considerable amount of experimental results concerning this phenomenon is available and these results are reviewed in detail by Johnson (1970) and Davies et al. (1970).

This work was done at the Department of Metallurgy and Materials Science, University of Cambridge, Cambridge, England.
