Résumé
Les ferrofluides sont des colloïdes magnétiques très stables qui ont été mis au point ces dernières années (1, 2). Leur stabilité dans le temps s’étend sur des années et en champ magnétique jusqu’à 10 kG au moins. De plus, ils conservent leurs propriétés fluides en champ fort, la viscosité n’étant que peu affectée. Ceci les distingue radicalement des liquides développés pour les embrayages magnétiques. Les aimantations à saturation des ces fluides sont élevées. On a couramment des 4πM de 100 G/cm3 et même de 600 G/cm3, c’est-à-dire des aimantations inférieures à celle du nickel d’à peine un ordre de grandeur.
