Der heutige Stand prophylaktischer Maßnahmen beim Tetanus

Summary

The danger to everyone of tetanus and the increased danger in certain types of wound are discussed. Antibiotic prophylaxis is uncertain and only worthwhile in a minority of patients. Active immunisation with toxoid is the most effective of the immunological preventive measures. It is, however, too late in the case of injury, where antisera may be administered. In this, human antitetanus-immunoglobulin is more effective and less dangerous than animal serum. Various methods of employing immuno-prophylactic measures are mentioned, as well as a brief description of immuno-therapy.

Zusammenfassung

Die Tetanusgefährdung jeder und die erhöhte Gefährdung besonderer Wunden werden erwähnt. Die antibiotische Prophylaxe ist unsicher und nur für eine Minderzahl von Patienten sinnvoll. Von den immunologischen Vorbeugungsmaßnahmen ist die aktive Immunisierung mit dem Toxoid am wirksamsten. Im Verletzungsfalle kommt sie aber zu spät, weshalb hier Antiseren verabreicht werden können. Dabei ist das menschliche Antitetanus-Immunglobulin ungleich wirksamer und ungefährlicher als das Tierserum. Es werden verschiedene Varianten der Anwendung der Immunprophylaxe erläutert sowie kurz die Immuntherapie geschildert.
