Summary
The rate of oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production was measured in rats following the injection of amphetamine. Amphetamine is strongly calorigenic in normal as well as in triiodothyronine treated thyroidectomized animals. In hypothyroid thyroidectomized animals amphetamine causes only a very small increase in oxygen consumption.
