Über den geeignetsten Zeitpunkt zum Beginn einer antiretroviralen Behandlung bestehen nach wie vor unterschiedliche Auffassungen. Über die Erfolgsaussichten des ersten Therapieregimes entscheidet die klinisch/virologische Ausgangssituation des Patienten, die Potenz der eingesetzten Medikamentenkombination und nicht zuletzt die Therapieadhärenz des Patienten, die durch gewissenhafte und sorgfältige Aufklärung und Führung durch den Arzt gefördert werden sollte.
