Zusammenfassung
Anders als die Luft am industriellen Arbeitsplatz, wo produktionsbedingt ein in seiner Zusammensetzung meist annähernd bekanntes Stoffgemisch vorliegt, enthält die Luft von privaten, öffentlichen und anderen nicht industriellen Räumen ein wesentlich komplexer zusammengesetztes Gemisch von Verbindungen. Dies gilt besonders für die Vielzahl der in der Innenraumluft anzutreffenden flüchtigen organischen Verbindungen (VOC; von „Volatile Organic Compounds“). Angesichts ihres unterschiedlichen chemischen Charakters und ihres unterschiedlichen Wirkungspotentials ist es jedoch sehr fraglich, ob die Einhaltung von Richtwerten für Einzelsubstanzen — selbst bei Berücksichtigung einer ähnlichen Wirkung von Stoffen gleicher chemischer Verbindungsklasse — ausreicht, auch die unspezifischen Beschwerden abzustellen, über die von den Nutzern vieler Räume immer wieder geklagt wird.
